Hello, I’m Harvey, the founder of Just Wood Products. My passion is repurposing olive wood and turning it into unique hand-crafted olive wood products through the art of wood turning.

Olive is not considered to be an exotic wood but look closely at what’s innermost and you will see stunning wood grain patterns in wonderful shades of honey and caramel.

This has inspired me to create individual and unique products including kitchen accessories, olive wood bowls, candle holders, tea-light holders, storage pots and more, all turned by hand on my wood lathe at home.

The art of wood-turning

Each item I create is individually crafted using my trusted lathe. The thrill of seeing a piece of wood that would otherwise have been destined for the wood burner slowly come to life is second to none. The word ‘unique’ has been used several times on this site but there really isn’t a more thought-provoking way of describing something that cannot be repeated, ever!

We hear and see original items from history, so here I am creating something that with careful maintenance will last a lifetime. Along with my lathe, the tools of my trade are known as gouges. I use several kinds to hand-craft and turn olive wood products and gifts, including bowl gouges, spindle gouges and skews.

I take pride in offering hand-crafted olive wood products born from the very essence of nature’s bounty, with a special emphasis on repurposing unwanted olive branches after the harvesting season.

As the olive trees are pruned to promote healthier growth and higher yields, I gather the discarded branches, transforming them into exquisite pieces of art. Each item tells a story of renewal, showcasing the beauty that emerges from sustainable practices.

My commitment to the environment goes beyond the crafting process. I utilise every resource mindfully, ensuring that even the smallest remnants contribute to a greener world. The sawdust generated from shaping and turning my olive branch creations finds new purpose as eco-friendly packaging material and briquettes for the fire, minimising waste and maximising sustainability.
